The first engineering college in the State has so far awarded degree to over sixteen thousand graduates. It was established in 1948 from the donation made by the Birla Education Trust. Pioneer in introducing Credit - based System of studying, the college offers four - year degree courses in
1. Civil Engineering,
2. Mechanical Engineering,
3. Electrical Engineering,
4. Computer Engineering,
5. Electronics Engineering and
6. Production Engineering.
It also runs a self-financed
course in Information Technology and a parttime
Post-Diploma Degree Course (PDDC) in
Mechanical Engineering. It also offers post -
graduate (M.Tech.) and Ph.D. Programmes in
joint efforts with sister institutions namely,
ISTAR, GCET, ADIT and SICART in areas like
Environmental Engineering, Structural
Engineering, Construction Engineering and
Management, Transportation System
Engineering, Machine Design and Computer Engineering etc. Infrastructural facilities include welldeveloped laboratories and workshops, comprehensive computer and internet facilities, computerised library and a large collection of self - learning tools like video cassettes and CDs. The college has an auditorium with seating capacity of four hundred, multipurpose seminar hall and several departmental seminar halls. Testing and Consultancy facilities are available in the following laboratories of the College: Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Metal Testing, Cement and Concrete Testing, Electronics & Computer, Power System, Turbo Machines, Mechanical Measurement and Dynamics of Machines etc.
The college is recognised for testing of
materials, BIS Certifications, Environmental
Auditing, Calibrations of different electrical
and electronics instruments and gadgets.
To keep pace with the world of today the
college has taken up to modernise all it
laboratories with the latest sophisticated
instruments worth nearly six crores.

It is heartening that the college has recently
celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the august
presence of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former
President of India, and Shri Narendra Modi,
Chief Minister of Gujarat, and numerous
alumni who have been giving excellent
account of themselves in India and abroad.
